On April 4, 2024, Alfred Nobel University students had a meeting in English with distinguished speakers from UNFPA. The meeting was organized at the initiative of the Department of Foreign Languages.
Anna Kopala, UNFPA PSEA National Coordinator, and Sofia Kornieyeva, UNFPA GBV Policy Associate, touched upon the topical topic of “UNFPA work in Ukraine on prevention and addressing of gender-based and domestic violence”. What is gender-based and domestic violence? Where to go for help if necessary? What are the methods of combating this problem? Students received detailed answers to these and other questions during the meeting.
The speakers introduced the students to the key aspects of UNFPA’s work to combat gender-based and domestic violence, the causes and consequences of this social phenomenon, informed them about the main legislative framework on this issue, shared the main achievements and initiatives of UNFPA to address this social problem, and told about employment opportunities in international organizations.
Of particular interest was the report about the dedicated environment for girls and women “Vilna”, which provides comprehensive assistance and shelter to those who need it, providing the necessary protection, support and development.
Difficult times require constructive solutions to address pressing problems, a systematic approach and, above all, humanity towards others. Therefore, we are sincerely grateful to the speakers for the opportunity to gain useful knowledge on these pressing issues and join the movement to provide social support to the population of Ukraine!
