BA Counseling, Correction and Development Work

The main activities of a psychologist are: to perform psychodiagnostic and psychocorrective work with various categories of citizens; to provide advisory services for individuals and organizations; to provide psychological support for various organizations, institutions and departments of governmental authorities; to undertake social and psychological research and to maintain favorable psychological climate among members of staff; to assure career guidance and selection of employees; to identify psychological factors of social maladjustment in children, to select the forms and content of psychocorrective and psychological preventive work; to provide psychological support for troubled categories among population.

The mission of the study programme “Counseling, Correction and Development Work” (Bachelor’s Degree) is the training of contemporary highly qualified, competitive, socially responsible professionals who possess universal basic professional knowledge and skills corresponding to the demands of contemporary labor market, can work with modern technologies in the psychological area, and also have skills in counseling and psychological diagnosis to carry out psychological treatment to clients of various social and professional groups of different ages..

Results of mastery of the study programme: acquisition of basic knowledge of fundamental and applied courses/disciplines necessary for competence of bachelors in psychology in the field of counseling, psychodiagnostic and psychocorrectional work in various social settings.

Professional knowledge and skills obtained after completing the programme:

  • performing psychodiagnostic and psychocorrective work with various categories of citizens;
  • identifying psychological factors of social maladjustment in order to select the forms and content of psychocorrective and psychological preventive work;
  • providing advisory services for individuals and organizations;
  • providing psychological support for troubled categories among the population;
  • organizing career guidance and professional selection, as well as assuring professional development of experts in various fields;
  • providing psychological support for various organizations, institutions and departments of state administration;
  • undertaking social and psychological research, undertaking activities for creating a favourable working environment, as well as for increasing labour productivity and improving psychological climate among members of organization.

Programme requirements (ECTS credits)

In accordance with the Standard on higher education set for the programme Counseling, Correction and Development Work(Bachelor’s Degree), 240 ECTS credits are awarded in total. The curriculum incorporates: mandatory courses (163.5 ECTS credits) including course paper (1 ECTS credit) and elective courses (60 ECTS credits). Practical training which includes internship – 7.5 ECTS credits. The Comprehensive State Examination in Profession (1.5 ECTS credits). Bachelor’s thesis (7.5 ECTS credits)

Educational goals of the programme

General goal of the study programme Counseling, Correction and Development Work(Bachelor’s Degree) is to provide fundamental training of highly qualified, competitive specialists with in-depth knowledge in the field of practical psychology, professionally operating research methods capable of solving complex problems and practical problems in the field of psycho-prevention, counseling, psychodiagnostic and psychocorrectional work in various social settings, which would contribute to the development of the individual, reveal his potential, mental health and improve general performance.

The programme’s objectives are designed to:

  • ensure training of bachelors in Psychology taking into account requirements of the labour market concerning formation of competence and increase of quality by means of introducing innovations in education;
  • provide basic knowledge of fundamental and applied courses necessary for competence of bachelors in Psychology;
  • to acquaint students with effective psychological tools for diagnostic, development and counseling work with clients of different ages and different social and professional groups;
  • develop in students the ability to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to both theoretical and applied problems in psychology;
  • develop the students’ powers of analysis and judgement;
  • develop graduates as social individuals who are ready to solve certain problems and tasks of communicative and social activity;
  • to provide students with knowledge and skills for further use in research work in the field of psychology and related areas that provide psychological assistance;
  • develop in students, through their studies, a range of generic skills that will be of value in employment and self-employment as well as in their future careers in the private or public sector.
